New Teledyne FLIR Black Fly Camera:

En Wilco Imaging Blog

The new Teledyne FLIR Blackfly S camera series now offers an 8 megapixel solution in either USB3 format or GigE format.  The newest series features higher resolution within the same sensor size allowing cameras to use cost effective lenses. Additionally, the Pregius S backside illuminated feature allows pixels

to efficiently capture more incoming photons from wider angles, resulting in excellent even illumination across the image.  The aspect ratio for both the USB and GigE cameras is an impressive 1:1 within a 2/3” sensor format with a pixel size of just 2.74. The 1:1 aspect ratio is beneficial for scientific applications such as microscopy and visible light imaging.

Ideal Applications

Microscopy, Imaging and 2D Measurements:

      - great image quality with exceptional low read noise values
      - higher dynamic range and light distribution over the image on the BSI feature
      - perfect fit aspect ratio for scientific applications, especially microscopy and visible light imaging

      - wider field of view that fit with lenses used in microscopy under a 2/3" size sensor

      Non-Contact Metrology:

        - great image quality with lower absolute sensitivity threshold
        - higher dynamic range and light distribution over the image on the BSI feature
        - achieve higher resolution under the same optics

        Aerial Imaging:

          - great image quality with lower absolute sensitivity threshold
          - higher dynamic range and light distribution over the image on the BSI feature
          - achieve higher resolution under the same optics

            Sensor Technology Highlights

Smaller pixels (2.74) support higher resolution within the same sensor size

Back side illuminated (BSI) feature allows pixels to efficiently capture more incoming photons from wider angles.

Enable a low absolute-sensitivity threshold (AST) at 4.42 photon, resulting from higher QE and low read noise <2.63 e-

            Value

Global shutter BSI pixel enables less expensive, more compact optics.

High sensitivity (High QE, Low AST) reduces lighting system requirements.

Outperforms similar models such as BFS-PGE-70S7 series through a lower price point and higher resolution.

Offers higher frame rate compared to other models: up to 30 FPS (with lossless compression)

Incorporates smaller 2/3” sensor, allowing for the use of a smaller and therefore lower cost lens.
